Not all drug and alcohol counselors are trained and qualified to complete DOT approved SAP assessments.

All SAPs must possess certain credentials established by the DOT, must have received specialized SAP training from an accredited organization, and must have passed a test administered by a nationally recognized professional or training organization.

Janine Byrnes, LCSW-C, CCDC, SAP

Janine Byrnes, LCSW-C, CCDC, Columbia Treatment Center

Specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy, Janine provides counseling to individual clients and helps facilitate our treatment groups and our adult education group. Janine also performs client intake evaluations, including SAP evaluations.

Janine earned her Master’s in Social Work from Rutgers University in 1988 and has been licensed in Maryland since 2005.  In 2001, she became a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor through the International Committee of the Red Cross and has been a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) with the Department of Transportation since 2006.  Janine has been certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) since 2008.  She utilizes methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and brief solution-focused therapy in her treatment.
